QUEER MEDIA ADVENTURES
NineColors is a creative team telling media and genre-spanning queer stories.
NineColors was born from and tries to reflect diversity. Understanding it in a broad sense, not only in terms of the origin or identity of its authors and characters, but also in terms of the variety and emotional nature of their experiences and narratives. We want to portray queerness with all its nuances, without falling into cliches, sensationalism, or the recent "normalizing" impulse. We address the challenges we face as queer people without losing our sense of humor or our desire to transgress and transform, because our lives are not a bottomless pit of misery. But neither are they an endless succession of parties. Nor a "gay" version of "normal". Our lives are all of that and none of that and much more. Our lives are diverse.
For us, growing up queer has meant not finding representation or models in media. We only could see ourselves in villains and monsters, shameful stereotypes or side characters who die in terrible ways. Or, more recently, in characters whose main aspiration is to be considered "normal", to fit in, to assimilate. In a world that sanitizes non-normative people or presents them as tragic, grotesque, miserable or ridiculous, we want to show queer characters living their lives outside the norm, defining happiness on their own terms, surviving and aging.
