STAY
FEATURE FILM
Sophie is a straight-laced American PhD student who travels to Madrid for a research stay. Upon arrival, Sophie’s expectations about Spain are immediately challenged at every turn. Living immersed in a different culture and, above all, working with her supervisor Mugi—visibly and proudly queer and a complete disaster—makes her reconsider her priorities, her worldview, her definition of family ... and even her own identity. How can she go back home, where everything is always exactly the same, after such an experience?

Currently in development at the award-winning production company Aquí y Allí Films, Stay is a story about queer people, young and old, trying to find their way in a world that gives them no landmarks. While difficult topics like prejudice, addiction, and power imbalance in relationships are part of the narrative, the story has a light touch, humor, a positive outlook, and emphasizes themes of friendship, community, and hope.
